President’s Welcome

From the Founding President

Welcome to the Sin City Repeater Group

Amateur radio should be fun. It should teach you something new, introduce you to people you otherwise never would have met, and remind you why you got your license.

Thank you for visiting the Sin City Repeater Group, Inc. We’re glad you found us. At its best, amateur radio brings people together, gives us something new to learn, and creates experiences and friendships that extend well beyond the radio. That is the kind of organization we are building here in Las Vegas.

The Sin City Repeater Group is a community of operators who enjoy getting on the air, building infrastructure, helping new hams, supporting public service, and creating experiences worth showing up for. Our members build and maintain repeaters, operate special events, introduce people to amateur radio and STEM, help visitors get on the air, and occasionally just get together and enjoy each other’s company.

Our story began with one repeater at Railroad Pass. I originally built it so I could stay connected with friends and family back in Buffalo. One machine grew into several, and eventually into a network connecting Las Vegas with Western New York and beyond. We are proud of the systems we have built, but the people who use them, improve them, and bring others into the hobby matter even more.

That is also why being family-oriented matters to us. Spouses and children are welcome, and we want young people to grow up seeing amateur radio as something they can participate in, not simply something adults talk about. Because families, new operators, and young people are part of our community, we are thoughtful about membership and serious about respectful conduct on our systems. We do not expect everyone to think alike, but we do expect people to treat one another well.

You do not have to arrive knowing everything. If you are new to amateur radio, we will help you get started. If you have been licensed for decades, there is probably a project here that will interest you. If you are visiting Las Vegas, get on one of our repeaters and say hello. And if you are not licensed yet, you are welcome here too.

No license? No radio? No problem.

We care about reliable systems, capable operators, public service, strong technical standards, and building something that will last. Just as importantly, we believe amateur radio has a future when people enjoy participating in it, feel welcome doing so, and have opportunities to keep learning.

If that sounds like your kind of amateur radio, I hope you will get on the air, come to an event, and get to know us. You will probably feel at home here.
